No virus attack has even troubled me more than this one. Especially when your mind is occupied with too many things. It almost brought my laptop to a halt. Microsoft Security Essentials, McCafe, SuperAntiSpyware all failed to detect this trojan. It corrupted the file “C:\WINDOWS\system32\mswsock32.dll” and all applications that require network connection including browsers, email client etc.. did not function. Startup services including SQL Server did not load at all.
Finally installed the new AVG 9 and was able to remove the trojan. However the Winsock was corrupted and was not able to make network connections. I used the “netsh winsock reset” command and a a restart did the trick. My laptop was up again.
