The Art of Communication

In today’s modern world technology has bridged a lot of gaps in communication. Yet still today there is nothing as good as a face to face communication. How many times have we faced the perils of misinterpreted information through emails and even on telephone. Todays younger generation prefers to communicate my email. The younger generation is hence forgetting to Talk, how to listen and understand body language. This often leads to failed relationships in social and working lives.

Many people no longer know how to express themselves, what words to use and not to use. Worse still, they lack the confidence to meet other people or tackle
difficult situations face-to-face, seeking to criticize, chastise and even worse dismiss people and end relationships by e-mail or text. At work colleagues send e-mails to the person sitting at the desk next to them; managers instruct and inform by e-mail and then wonder why their instructions have been ignored or misinterpreted.

As I write this blog I rewind moments when there have been quarrels and confusion on information communicated thru email when I was working abroad. But then I attributed it to my fellow colleagues who did not understand English. But now I realize that the same body of text in email can be understood in numerous different ways based on mood of the reader, relationship with the writer, and the tone with which the mail is read. More often people read emails with the same tone as one speaks which often leads to misinterpretation. Hence is a person was sounding furious during the first meet all emails thereafter would be read with the same tone.

Strange by true.. email may not be always be the best way to communicate. Come on guys meet people in person or pick up the phone…
